Be realistic about your organization's capacity. Small changes can have big impact. Use this to spot gaps in your solutions. Sometimes, teams overestimate their ability to execute radical new ideas.
The Ways to Grow Framework is a quick, visual way to understand how difficult implementing design solutions might be. This exercise helps you identify if concepts extend or adapt existing offerings, or create something totally new. You'll also clarify if solutions target your current user group or expand to new users.

Steps:

  1. Draw a 2x2 matrix on a large sheet of paper. The vertical axis represents the novelty of your offering; the horizontal axis represents its users. New offerings go above the horizontal axis; existing ones below. Ideas for new users go to the right of the vertical axis; ideas for existing users to the left.

  2. Write solutions on Post-its and plot them on the map. Revolutionary ideas attracting new users fall in the top right. Incremental ideas building on existing services land below the horizontal axis.
