Conduct guided conversations. Reveal deep insights about users' needs, motivations, and contexts. Understand underlying hopes, desires, and aspirations, not just surface-level responses.

  • Interview plan and practiced skills.

  • Readiness for user research.

  • Consistent interview approach.

Focus on understanding motivations and emotions, not just facts. Create space for stories and examples. Don't be afraid to gently redirect if the conversation veers too far off course. It happens!

  1. Prepare thoughtful questions. Use conversation starters and open-ended prompts.

  2. Create a comfortable environment. Put the interviewee at ease and build rapport.

  3. Listen actively. Pay attention to both what is said and unsaid.

  4. Ask follow-up questions. Dig deeper into interesting responses.

  5. Document insights. Take notes on key quotes, behaviors, and observations.

  6. Thank the participant. Show appreciation for their time and insights.
