Quantify prioritization decisions. Systematically balance impact and effort. Account for uncertainty using confidence scoring. Defend priorities with supporting data.
Prioritized list based on RICE scores. Clear rationale for ranking based on reach, impact, confidence, and effort.
Maintain consistent reach timeframes. Define Impact scores clearly (e.g., 1=minimal, 2=moderate, 3=massive). Confidence acknowledges estimation uncertainty. This is useful when stakeholders question priorities. I've found it helpful to pre-populate the spreadsheet with a few examples.

  1. For each idea, assign scores for Reach (users per quarter), Impact (1-3 scale), Confidence (0-100%), and Effort (person-months). 2. Calculate the RICE score: (Reach x Impact x Confidence) / Effort. 3. Higher scores mean higher priority. 4. This approach reduces bias and provides a clear rationale. It won't eliminate debate, but it focuses it.
