Participants will:

  • Validate concept appeal and comprehension.

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses.

  • Prioritize features and benefits.

  • Estimate market potential.

  • Reduce development risk.

  • Refine value proposition.

  • Guide iteration direction.

You'll get clear concept testing results. Expect a validated concept viability and a solid foundation for refinement. Sometimes, you'll also learn what not to do, which is just as valuable.

  • Present concepts at a similar level of fidelity to avoid biasing feedback.

  • Avoid selling the concept; focus on getting honest reactions. It's tempting, but resist!

  • Test with actual target users. Don't rely on friends or family.

  • Be prepared for negative feedback. It's a learning opportunity.

  • Focus on why users react the way they do, not just what they say.

  • Test the core value proposition first. Get that right before diving into details.

  • Consider testing competitive alternatives to provide context.

  1. Define your testing objectives. What do you want to learn?

  2. Create concept representations. Use sketches, descriptions, mock advertisements, or rough prototypes.

  3. Recruit target users. Make sure they represent who will actually use the product.

  4. Present concepts clearly and consistently.

  5. Gather feedback on initial reactions, perceived value, comprehension, intent to use/buy, concerns, and suggestions.

  6. Use structured questions and rating scales. This makes analysis easier.

  7. Compare multiple concepts, if applicable.

  8. Probe for the reasoning behind reactions. Don't just take answers at face value.

  9. Document all feedback meticulously.

  10. Analyze patterns and trends in the feedback.

  11. Make go/no-go decisions based on the data.

  12. Iterate and refine your concepts based on what you learned.
