Teams will know design terms better. They will choose words more carefully. People will listen actively. The team will be more engaged. Participants will share values and preferences.
To focus on specific terms:

Limit the activity to a theme or topic your team cares about. This makes it more useful for current work. The insights are more immediate.
Use the terms yourself. See if people know the jargon. Focus on learning, not competition.

  1. Setup (1 minute): Get materials ready. Make sure everyone can see and hear. Explain the activity and what you hope to achieve. Set ground rules for participation. Create a safe space.

  2. Individual Prep (2 minutes): Each person thinks about the prompt. Encourage real, personal thoughts, not just "right" answers. Remind them to share examples.

  3. Sharing (3 minutes): Each person shares with the group. Keep it supportive. No interrupting. As facilitator, note themes and connections.

  4. Discussion (2 minutes): Discuss themes and insights as a group. Explore what it shows about teamwork. Connect insights to upcoming work.


I've found it helpful to share first to model vulnerability. It doesn't always work, but it sets a good tone.
