Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Brainstorm all possible stakeholders. Don't be afraid to think big. 2. Categorize stakeholders: Internal vs. External, Primary vs. Secondary, Direct vs. Indirect influence. 3. Map information flows and decision processes. 8. Identify conflicts, synergies, and dependencies. 9. Prioritize engagement strategies based on the map. 10. Plan ongoing stakeholder management. Facilitator Tips

Cast a wide net initially, then prioritize strategically. Include both supporters and potential detractors. Map both formal and informal power structures. Update the map regularly as the project evolves. Be sensitive to organizational politics. Don't forget indirect stakeholders (e.g., maintenance, support staff). Use the map for ongoing communication planning. Consider stakeholders affected by unintended consequences.
