Try these techniques individually or combine them:
- Silent Start (2 minutes): Begin with 2 minutes of silent brainstorming. Everyone writes down their thoughts before discussing them.
- Round Robin (variable): Go around the group. Everyone shares one thought. Participants can pass, but they still have the opportunity to speak without interruptions.
- 1-2-4-All (12 minutes): Start with individual thinking, then pair up, form groups of four, and finally share with everyone. This builds ideas progressively.
- Parking Lot: Capture tangent topics for later discussion. This keeps the meeting focused while still honoring all input.
- Equal Air Time: Track who speaks during the meeting. Intentionally invite quieter participants to share, and gently limit verbose participants. This is tricky and requires emotional intelligence.
