Objectives

Participants will build empathy, create trust, encourage open sharing, and validate experiences.

Outcomes

Participants will gain body language reading skills, non-verbal insight capture, and richer research data.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Interviews uncover user needs. Body language plays a crucial role. Active listening is as vital as the questions you ask. Avoid inserting your own experiences; focus on hearing and recording the participant's story.

  1. Match the interviewee's physical level. Sit on the floor if they are; stand if they are working.

  2. Maintain eye contact. Smile and nod to show you're listening.

  3. Take notes to signal attentiveness and appreciation.

  4. Resist the urge to fill silences with personal stories. Let the interviewee lead.
